INTRODUCTION
The office of the Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) is divided into two, thus divisions under them are grouped accordingly.
There is first (1st) Deputy Director General, who is in charge of management services and the second (2nd) Deputy Director-General is in charge of quality and access.
Mr. Stephen Kwaku Owusu is the first Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service while Dr. Kwabena B. Tandoh is the second.
It is good to note that this article states the divisions under the offices of the deputy director generals of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
Before becoming deputy director general, both Mr. Stephen Kwaku Owusu and Dr. Kwabena B. Tandoh have served the country in the education sector for a long time.
As per the rules of promotion, before one can get to the next level in the education sector, he/she must be a long term servant, and have qualification in relevance with the position in which they are placed.
In spite of this article, the divisions are grouped into two, thus one under the office of 1st deputy director general and the other for 2nd deputy director general of the service.
NUMBER OF DIVISIONS IN GES
There are five divisions in the Ghana Education Service (GES), specially, under the offices of deputy director-generals.

DIVISIONS UNDER 1ST DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL
Human Resource Management Division
The HRM Division is also responsible for staff development and rationalisation. It gives promotion to GES staff, both teaching and non-teaching. This division is also responsible for the recruitment and distribution of teachers employed by GES.
The HRMD is responsible for posting of teachers returning from study leave with pay. It also does Inter-Regional reposting of staff. The division is in charge of upgrading, salary adjustment, change of name, conversion of GES Staff.
Finance Division
The finance division advises management on all financial matters relating to the service. It ensures stock of Value books are kept for the office and keeps register for the value books in safe custody.
This division allocates funds to cost centers for preparing budget. The finance division also collates estimates from the various Regions or District Directors and other Divisions for the preparation of the annual budget estimates.
The division facilitates meeting with Parliamentary Committee on Education to present the GES Budget for approval. The division prepares cash plans and monitors the release and disbursement of funds.
It gives supports to implementation of donor funded projects. The division monitors, evaluates and reports on budget performance. The finance division assists management of GES to control expenditure within the approved budget.
General Administration Division
This division of the Ghana Education Service is responsible for the day to day management of the entire organization.
The General Administration Division is also responsible for making and keeping the administrative records of Ghana Education Service.
DIVISIONS UNDER 2ND DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL
Schools and Instructions Division (SID)
SID liaises with WAEC in the administration, conduct and monitoring of the BECE and WASSCE. It provides supervision of placement of BECE graduate into the Second Cycle Institutions and analysis of the BECE and the WASSCE results nationwide.
The SIS supports the implementation of key interventions for increasing access, equity and improving quality. It demands accountability at the district and school level. It also provides monitoring and supervision of teaching and learning in Basic and Second Cycle Schools.
The SID is in charge of the implementations of policy guidelines for all Basic Schools and SHS in collaboration with relevant authorities and key stakeholders. It ensures there is adequate and timely supply and distribution of essential teaching and learning materials to schools.
Special Education Division (SPED)
The SPED is in charge screening and assessment of children for early identification, correct placement in schools and other interventional measures. It facilitates effective administration of Special Schools.
The SPED provides supervision and monitoring of special schools and units. It also makes provision for educational facilities and services for children and young people with Disabilities and Special Educational Needs.
This division provides appropriate Teaching and Learning Materials and Assistive Devices for learners at the pre-tertiary level. It transcribes textbooks and other reading materials into Braille.
The SPED provides capacity building of Special Teachers across the sector at the pre-tertiary level. It also ensures and facilitates the timely release of feeding grants to special schools.
CONCLUSION
It is therefore to conclude that, the office of the deputy director general of the Ghana Education Service (GES) is not one. This means that there are two deputy director generals at the headquarters with their respective roles as well as the divisions under the office are concerned.
It should also be known that there are units under all the divisions under the offices of the deputy director generals. These units also have their respective functions as long as Ghana Education Service is involved.
