2. Applicant should be an officer in any recognized public tertiary institution, eg. University, College of Education, Technical University, etc.

3. Applicant must hold a first degree or master’s degree in relation to the field.

The applicant must have relevant competencies and skills required for the job. These competencies and skills include:

1. Knowledge and understanding of labour laws and regulations in general.

2. Knowledge of principles of education planning and management.

3. Knowledge of educational policies and how to implement them.

4. Excellent in communication and presentation skills.

5. Innovative and visionary.

6. Good negotiation, lobbying and resolution skills.

Purpose of The Job of Deputy Director-General

The Deputy Director-General’s position, which falls directly under the leadership of the Director-General has the roles it is mandated to play in the education sector.

The Deputy Director-General is mandated to provide leadership for the operations of educational policies, programmes and curricular projects.

It also the mandate of the Deputy Director-General to ensure that delivery of education meets the reformed standards that the objectives of the system will be attained putting into consideration, knowledge, attitudes and skills.

Roles & Responsibilities of Deputy Director-General of GES

3. Coordinates the procurement and supply of educational materials to basic and second cycle schools.

4. Coordinates the establishment of adequate infrastructure for schools.

5. Coordinates the preparation of annual budget of the GES.

6. Prepares the appraisal of staff of Ghana Education Service.
