NTC Opens Registration for GTLE 2024: Steps & Guide

The National Teaching Council (NTC) has opened registration portal for Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE 1) 2024.

The council has functions which it is entitled to as a body in charge of Teacher education, Teacher profession as well as registering professional teachers.

Functions and Mandates of National Teaching Council

1. The National Teaching Council is a governmental organization mandated by Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020 (ACT 1023) to regulate the teaching profession in Ghana.

2. As part of the Council’s regulatory functions, it is mandated to conduct examination for licensing of people who desire to teach.

3. The purpose of the Licensing Examination is to enable qualified teachers acquire a professional licence.

4. To ascertain whether candidates meet the demands of the National Teachers’ Standards on professional knowledge, practice, values, and attitudes necessary to deliver effectively in schools.

Form of the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE)

All fresh candidates shall write three papers, these are:

a. General Professional Knowledge paper. This paper comprises numeracy, literacy, and essential professional skills contents.

b.  Grade-level Specialism Pedagogy paper. The pedagogies are differentiated by levels of specialisation. That is, Early Grade or Early Childhood, Primary and JHS, SHS/SHTS and Technical Vocational Schools.

c. Multiple Subjects Content or Single Subject Content Knowledge (subject specialism).

Multiple Subjects Content.

Prospective teachers who are trained for Early Grade/Early Childhood or Primary levels will write Multiple Subjects Content Paper.

Single Subject Specialism.

Prospective teachers who are trained for junior high, senior high or TVET will write one paper in their areas of specialisation.

Prospective candidates may visit https://ntc.gov.gh/gtle-content/ to access detailed reading materials and tables of specification.

Eligibility for the Licensure Examination

i. A candidate is eligible to write GTLE only when he/she has a Bachelor of Education Degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.

ii. Candidates with foreign degrees shall provide a certificate evaluation report from Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to prove their eligibility.

Registration Procedure for GTLE

Indexing Process for Fresh Candidates.

1. Visit https://indexing.ntc.gov.gh to check your status to determine whether your data have been uploaded onto the portal by your training institution before you start the registration process.

2. If your details have been uploaded, you shall be indexed before registering for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination.

3. Indexing fee for Fresh Candidates is Fifty Ghana Cedis (GH⍧50.00.

NB: Re-sit candidates shall not go through the indexing process so they must not pay.

4. Payment can be made at any branch of Prudential Bank Limited nationwide.

5. Candidates can also use mobile money payment by dialing the short code *772*51# across all networks by using college or university index number.

6. After successful payment, you will receive a message on your phone which contains your name, indexing number and further instructions.

7. Visit https://indexing.ntc.gov.gh to verify your details by logging in with your indexing number received on your phone via sms.

8. For candidates who pay at the bank, who do not receive indexing number immediately.

9. Use the indexing number to register for Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination.

Things General Candidates Must Know

1. A prospective candidate should make payment only when his/her details have been uploaded onto the indexing portal by their training institutions.

2. A prospective candidate will not be able to pay for indexing at the bank or via the short code if he/she does not have a minimum qualification of a degree.

3. Those who bought voucher for 2023 GTLE 2 (GTLE in September 2023) registration but were not successful in registering will have their pins and serial numbers activated for the registration of 2024 GTLE 1.

Cost of Registration for Fresh & Resit Candidates

1. Fresh candidates shall pay four hundred and fifty Ghana Cedis (GH⍧450.00) for three papers.

2. Candidates re-sitting a paper must pay GHȻ150.00.

3. Candidates re-sitting two (2) papers must pay GHȻ210.00.

4. Candidates re-sitting all three (3) papers must pay GHȻ385.00.

Registration Process

1. After payment at the bank or through mobile money, candidates should log on to exams.ntc.gov.gh.

2. Resitters should select Re-sit Registration.

3. Fresh candidates should select New Registration.

4. NTC will not accept any request for change of photograph after the examination.

5. Review information provided before submitting.

6. Print Summary of the inputs made.

7. Read the examination regulations and check the box before submission.

8. Candidates should keep their PIN and Serial Numbers secured after registration for further use.

Deadline for GTLE 2024 Registration

1. Candidates must complete their online registration not later than 20th February 2024.

2. There will be no extension in the time for registration beyond the 20th February 2024 deadline.

Start Date for the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination 2024 (GTLE)

17th March to 19th March, 2024, across all centres.
